The personal data protection officer is, in accordance with Article 37 of the General Data Protection Regulation (hereinafter: the Regulation), a person appointed by the head of personal data processing, who takes care of the legality of personal data processing and exercising the right to personal data protection.
The duties and tasks of the Personal Data Protection Officer are prescribed by Article 39 of the Regulation, according to which the Personal Data Protection Officer:
– informs and advises the Data Controller and the employees who perform the processing, about their obligations from the Regulation and other regulatory regulations related to data protection, – monitors compliance with the Regulation, raises employee awareness of the importance of personal data protection, – provides advice, when necessary and/or requested, – cooperates with the competent Supervisory Authority, – acts as a point of contact for the supervisory authority and respondents, on issues regarding the processing and protection of personal data.
The personal data protection officer is obliged to maintain the confidentiality of all information and data he learns in the performance of his duties. This obligation continues even after the termination of the duties of the personal data protection officer.
